Enroll in Fill The Room

Fill this in as honestly as you can. There are no wrong answers, and “I don’t know” is a real answer that helps us teach you better.

This course is free. No tuition, no materials fee, nothing to buy. Class size is limited to six.

There is a short placement test after this. Twenty-four multiple-choice questions, about ten minutes. There is no pass mark and nobody is turned away for any answer — it only tells us where to start you. You take the same test again at the end of the course, and the difference between the two is the point of it.

Part 1 · About you

Are you 18 or older?

Is there anything about how you learn best, or any accommodation that would help you in this class?

We will meet it if we can.

Part 2 · What you already know

How much experience do you have with audio, video or lighting?

Be honest. Most people starting this course tick “none at all”, and that is exactly who it is built for. Nobody is turned away for answering low.

Tick only what you have done WITH YOUR OWN HANDS, by yourself, with nobody doing it for you.

⛔ Watching someone do it does not count, even if it was explained the whole time and even if you understood it. Helping does not count. If you are unsure whether it counts, it does not — leave it blank. Blank is the most useful answer you can give us, because it tells us where to start.

Where did that experience come from?

Church, school, a job, a friend, a hobby, YouTube — anything counts.

Do you play an instrument or sing? Which one, and for how long?

Have you used any of this equipment before?

Tick anything you recognize.

Part 3 · Why you want this

Why do you want to get into audio, video and lighting?

This is the part we read most carefully. Write as much or as little as you want.

What made you interested in the first place? Was there a moment?

What do you hope to be able to do when this course is finished?

Are you hoping this leads to paid work?

Which part interests you most?

⛔ Put a number against each one — 1, 2, 3 and 4, each used once. 1 is the one you want most. We need the order, not the interest.

Audio — microphones, mixing boards, speakers, running sound for a band or a service
Video — cameras, switching, streaming, screens and LED walls
Lighting — fixtures, color, cues, designing what the audience sees
Production — planning the show, running the crew, the schedule and the pack-out

Part 4 · Time you can give

How many hours a week can you realistically give to this?

The full course is sixty hours and can be taken one tier at a time. We would rather you commit to what is realistic than sign up for everything and stop halfway.

Which days and times work for you?

Tick everything that could work.

How will you get to class?

Which tiers do you want to enroll in?

Tick all that apply.
